1. Tribulus terrestris
Tribulus, senyawa kimia adalah saponin steroid. saponin steroid yang paling aktif di Tribulus di sebut Protodioscin. Protodioscin telah terbukti membantu memicu pelepasan Nitrat Oksida dalam jaringan ereksi pada penis. Nitrat Oksida mengirimkan sinyal ke pembuluh darah di penis untuk melebar (vasodilatasi), meningkatkan aliran darah, dan menyebabkan ereksi lebih kencang dan penuh.

Abstract
Hormonal effects of Tribulus terrestris (TT) were evaluated in primates, rabbit and rat to identify its usefulness in the management of erectile dysfunction (ED). TT extract was administered intravenously, as a bolus dose of 7.5, 15 and 30 mg/kg, in primates for acute study. Rabbits and normal rats were treated with 2.5, 5 and 10mg/kg of TT extract orally for 8 weeks, for chronic study. In addition, castrated rats were treated either with testosterone cypionate (10mg/kg, subcutaneously; biweekly for 8 weeks) or TT orally (5mg/kg daily for 8 weeks). Blood samples were analyzed for testosterone (T), dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEAS) levels using radioimmunoassay. In primates, the increases in T (52%), DHT (31%) and DHEAS (29%) at 7.5mg/kg were statistically significant. In rabbits, both T and DHT were increased compared to control, however, only the increases in DHT (by 30% and 32% at 5 and 10mg/kg) were statistically significant. In castrated rats, increases in T levels by 51% and 25% were observed with T and TT extract respectively that were statistically significant. TT increases some of the sex hormones, possibly due to the presence of protodioscin in the extract. TT may be useful in mild to moderate cases of ED.
2. Piper retrofractum
Bagian yang digunakan sebagai peningkat libido laki-laki adalah bagian buah. Buah cabe jawa mengandung zat pedas piperine, chavicine, palmitic acids, tetrahydropiperic acids, 1-undecylenyl-3,4-methylenedioxy benzene, piperidin, rninyak asiri, isobutyideka-trans-2-trans-4-dienamide, dan sesamin.
Zat yang berkhasiat adalah piperin. Piperin diketahui memiliki efek stimulan terhadap sel saraf sehingga mampu meningkatkan stamina tubuh. Efek hormonal ini dikenal sebagai afrodisiaka.

Abstrak: Telah diketahui bahwa androgen eksogen dapat meningkatkan kadar testosteron darah dan menekan produksi follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) dan luteinizing hormone (LH) pada laki-laki hipogonad. Salah satu androgen alami yang telah banyak digunakan adalah cabe jawa. Namun, belum diketahui apakah ekstrak cabe jawa dapat meningkatkan fertilitas pada laki-laki hipogonad. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan penelitian untuk menilai pengaruh androgen (testosteron) ekstrak cabe jawa terhadap laki-laki hipogonad. Hipotesis penelitian ini adalah ekstrak cabe jawa dapat meningkatkan kadar testosteron darah dan menekan produksi FSH dan LH pada laki-laki hipogonad. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain single blind study dengan subjek laki-laki hipogonad. Didapatkan hasil bahwa cabe jawa dapat meningkatkan kadar testosteron darah pada 7 dari 9 laki-laki hipogonad (78%), ekstrak cabe jawa dosis 100 mg/hari tidak dapat menurunkan kadar FSH dan LH pada laki-laki hipogonad, terhadap PSA dan berat badan laki-laki hipogonad, bersifat androgenik lemah dan dapat meningkatkan frekuensi koitus laki-laki hipogonad. Dari penelitian ini dapat
disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak cabe jawa pada dosis 100 mg/hari dapat bersifat/bertindak sebagai fitofarmaka androgenik yakni dapat meningkatkan kadar testosteron darah dan libido pada laki-laki hipogonad dan bersifat aman.

Abstract
Piperine is acutely toxic to mice, rats and hamsters. The LD50 values for a single i.v., i.p., s.c., i.g. and i.m. administration of piperine to adult male mice were 15.1, 43, 200, 330 and 400 mg/kg body wt, respectively. The i.p. LD50 value was increased to 60 mg/kg body wt in adult female and 132 mg/kg body wt in weanling male mice. In adult female rats, the i.p. LD50 value was 33.5 mg/kg body wt whereas the i.g. LD50 value was increased to 514 mg/kg body wt. Most animals given a lethal dose died of respiratory paralysis within 3-17 min. In subacute toxicity studies, the rats died within 1-3 days after treatment. Histopathologic changes included severe hemorrhagic necrosis and edema in gastrointestinal tract, urinary bladder and adrenal glands. Death of these animals may be attributable to multiple dysfunctions in their organs.

Abstract
It has been reported that Eurycoma longifolia Jack commonly known as Tongkat Ali has gained notoreity as a symbol of man's ego and strength by the Malaysian men because it increases male virility and sexual prowess during sexual activities. As such, the effects of 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg of butanol, methanol, water and chloroform fractions of E. longifolia Jack were studied on the laevator ani muscle in both uncastrated and testosterone-stimulated castrated intact male rats after dosing them for 12 consecutive weeks. Results showed that 800 mg/kg of butanol, methanol, water and chloroform fractions of E. longifolia Jack significantly increased (p<0.05) the leavator ani muscle to 58.56+/-1.22, 58.23+/-0.31, 60.21 +/-0.86 and 62.35 +/-0.98 mg/100 g body weight, respectively, when compared with the control (untreated) in the uncastrated intact male rats and 49.23+/-0.82, 52.23+/-0.36, 50.21+/-0.66 and 52.35+/-0.58 mg/100 g body weight, respectively, when compared to control (untreated) in the testosterone-stimulated castrated intact male rats. Hence, the pro-androgenic effect as shown by this study further supported the traditional use of this plant as an aphrodisiac.

Abstract
We studied the effects of Eurycoma longifolia Jack, commonly known as Tongkat Ali in Malaysia, on the initiation of sexual performance and the weights of sexual accessories in inexperienced castrated male rats. The doses of 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg body weight, which were extracted from E. longifolia Jack, were orally administered to the rats twice daily for 10 days prior to the tests and continued throughout the test period. Testosterone was used as a positive control after injecting 15 mg/kg daily subcutaneously for 32 days. Results showed that E. longifolia Jack produced a dose-dependent increase in sexual performance of the treated animals, but the E. longifolia Jack groups showed lower sexual performance in mounting, intromission and ejaculation than the testosterone group. Further results also showed that E. longifolia Jack promoted the growth of both ventral prostate and seminal vesicles as compared with the control, but the growth of sexual accessories at 800 mg/kg of butanol, methanol, water and chloroform fractions of E. longifolia Jack was less than that of testosterone treated group. The present study therefore gives further evidence of the folkuse of E. longifolia as an aphrodisiac.
Pengaruh Ekstrak EtanolAkar Pasak Bumi (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) terhadap Perilaku Seksual Mencit Putih

ABSTRAK
Telah dilakukan penelitian pengaruh pemberian akar pasak bumi (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) terhadap perilaku seksual mencit jantan strain DDY. Dosis yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah 56 mg/kgbb, 28 mg/kgbb., yang diberikan secara oral setiap hari selama 7 hari. Antagonis estrogen (mesterolone/proviron) sebagai kontrol positif diberikan oral dengan dosis 0,24 mg/kgbb., dan sebagai kontrol negatif digunakan tragacanth 1%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak pasak bumi (EPB) dengan dosis 28 mg/kgbb. dapat meningkatkan kadar hormon testosteron dalam darah. Ada perbedaan nyata antara kadar hormon testosteron dalam darah mencit yang diberi EPB 38 mg/kgbb. dibandingkan dengan kontrol negatif tragacanth 1%, namun tidak berbeda bermakna dengan yang diberi antagonis estrogen (mesterolone) 0,42%. Namun demikian pemberian ekstrak pasak bumi (EPB) tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap perilaku seksual mencit (kissing vagina dan mounting) dibandingkan dengan pem-berian mesterolone dan tragacant.
